Sonya Sawyer, chief financial officer for Home-Tech for 20 years, was recognized in April by the Women’s Foundation of Collier County at its annual Women of Initiative luncheon. The award is for women leaders who are an inspiration and make a difference through philanthropy and civic engagement.
The mother of two children, ages 11 and 14, is passionate about philanthropy, serving on boards for Charity for Change, PACE Center for Girls, Lee County, Dress for Success of SWFL, Lee Health System Foundation and American Heart Association Lee County, among others.
Since learning about it in 2012, she has been happy to support Charity for Change, a non-profit that helps elementary school children experience the joy of philanthropy and practice of character and citizenship skills. Home-Tech is a sponsor of Charity for Change’s annual fundraising event.
“What I love about this program is it teaches kids at the elementary level — that’s when you need to get them — about philanthropy and character traits like integrity, honesty, anti-bullying that they can bring through their lives. The program is a no-brainer to me. It’s crazy how it hasn’t been used throughout the nation. I wish it was in my kids’ schools.”
