Charity for Change received a $15,000 grant from Arthrex for improving the emotional well-being and academic performance of at-risk students through its learning program. With the $15,000 grant, Charity for Change will produce new educational videos which will be used as teaching tools for students in grade levels pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
The program uses various teaching tools to help students engage in their community through charity and learn about nine character traits including citizenship, perseverance, kindness, self-control, tolerance, responsibility, integrity, cooperation and respect.
“We are grateful for Arthrex and their generous support toward our program so children have the tools they need to overcome barriers to their learning and success in school,” said Karen Conley, founder and CEO for Charity for Change. “By supporting the mental wellness and emotional wellbeing of young learners, research has proven children improve academically as well as in their ability to manage emotions and develop healthy relationships.”
Through afterschool, summer and in-school settings, Charity for Change teaches life skills recognized by education experts: how to understand and manage emotions; set and achieve positive goals; feel and show empathy for others; establish and maintain positive relationships; and make responsible decisions.
